METRÓPOLIS

A 2D management game made for the Madrid Crea Game Jam in which the player will have to avoid trains from crashing into each other and take the passengers to their destinations.

This game was selected among the winners of the jam.

GAME DESIGN

I was one of the two designers that worked in this project made by a team of 5 people in total.

The theme of the jam was to create a game having a cultural aspect of Madrid in mind, and thus we came up with the idea of a sort of  manager game about the Underground.

We thought of a health system that would represent the amount of satisfaction of the passengers and it would decrease whenever a crash happened or if a train stopped for too long.

The ultimate goal of the game is to withstand as long as possible without the satisfaction meter going down to zero.

BALANCING

One of the hardest parts was to balance the overall difficulty of the game.

First, the number of lines we wanted: more lines would imply a greater number of intersections, which meant more chances for the player to lose.

Once that was settled, we had to tweak the number of trains spawning and their speed. We decided it was best to have each line behave differently and to gradually increase the difficulty to create a better experience.
