MY WORK
I was one of the two designers of the project, where I was in charge of several aspects such as:
-
Defining the game mechanics.
-
The level design.
-
The narrative design.
-
The camera and cinematic design.
-
The game flow.
-
Communicating with programmers, artists and sound designers to ensure all elements were correctly implemented.
-
Different works related to QA.
POWERS, PLATFORMING AND PUZZLES
These are the three pillars of Nehan.
The player unlocks three powers during the game:
Power of the present: it slows down the time of the world.
Power of the past: it allows to rewind the actions only made by the player.
Power of the future: it pauses time and creates a copy the player can control to solve different puzzles.
Platforming areas are where the player has to jump across different platforms and obstacles to traverse through the level.
The puzzle sections are rooms where the player has to use all the tools to their disposal to unlock different elements so they can move forward.

THE INSPIRATION
We drew inspiration from some Buddhist myths and legends.

One example is our protagonist, whom we decided should be an Asura, a three-faced creature from one of the six realms of existence in Buddhism. We thought it would be a perfect match for our idea of time-controlling powers, having each face relate to one of them.

The spark for the story was the legend of Suja and Sakra, but we elaborated a completely new one and left it to the player to make their own conclussions.

There are other Buddhist symbols present in the game, like the Endless Knot or the lotus flower.
